Candy AI Review

candy.ai · by EverAI Limited, Malta

Candy ai wins the AI companion category on looks: its image and video generation outclass almost everything else in the space, and the character builder walks you through more than a dozen appearance and personality settings in a couple of minutes. The catch is the token economy stacked on top of a cheap-looking subscription. It fits someone who wants visual customization and casual roleplay, not a companion that remembers much past a few dozen messages.

What Candy AI Does

01 . Overview

Candy.ai is an AI companion platform built around creating a personalized virtual partner and chatting with it through text, voice, images and short generated video. You either pick from a library of more than 100 pre-made characters or build your own from scratch, choosing everything from ethnicity and body type to personality and occupation. The company behind it is EverAI Limited, registered in Malta, and the product leans openly into uncensored adult roleplay rather than hiding it.

Positioning-wise, Candy sells itself as the "best AI girlfriend app," and the whole experience is organized around one ongoing relationship with a companion that is supposed to learn your preferences over time. Girlfriend characters sit front and center, with boyfriend and anime options tucked behind a tab switch. Access starts with a free trial, after which a single premium subscription unlocks the real feature set. There are no basic, pro and ultra levels to weigh up: you get the same features on every plan, and the only choice is how long you commit.

What Happened When We Tested It

02 . 6 tests covering build, chat, memory and monetization

I ran these tests on a free account, created fresh, with no subscription attached. That matters, because the free tier is where most people first judge the platform, and it is also where Candy's upsell machinery shows up most aggressively. I built a companion, opened chats with pre-made characters, probed memory with a deliberate two-fact message, and poked at settings and the create flow to see what the product does when you have not paid yet.

Building a Companion From Scratch

Test 01 . Character builder
Candy.ai create flow opening screen asking the user to pick a gender between Girls and Trans, then an art style of Realistic or Anime Candy.ai builder step showing ethnicity and age selection options for the new companion
The create flow opens with gender and art style, then moves to ethnicity and age.
What stood out: The opening screen offered only Girls and Trans, with no male option at this stage. From there the steps kept coming: art style, ethnicity, age, hair style, hair color, eye color, body type, chest size, then name, personality, relationship type, occupation and voice on a single screen. My finished companion, Christine Miller, age 21, landed on a profile page with Appearance and Character tabs. The whole build took a couple of minutes, and the depth of control here is the strongest thing the free tier shows you.

The Memory Test

Test 02 . Short-term recall
★ Prompt Used

"My name is Sam and i have a cat whose name is Andy."

Candy.ai chat showing the character replying hi sam and then commenting that andy is such a cute name for a cat, holding both facts from one message
The memory test. The highlighted message carries both the name and the pet detail.
The evidence: I fed a character named Katherine two separate facts in one message. She replied "hi sam," then followed with "andy is such a cute name for a cat," holding both details and using them in her next reply. Within a single session, recall works cleanly. That is the ceiling, though, not the floor: this test proves the AI can hold what you just said, not that it remembers you tomorrow.

The Private Video I Never Asked For

Test 03 . Paywall mechanics
Candy.ai chat with character Katherine showing an unsolicited private video card locked behind an Unlock video button that costs money The same locked private video card appearing in a chat with a second character named Mila at a similar point in the conversation
The unsolicited "private video" card on two different characters, Katherine and Mila.
Worth noting: A few messages in, Katherine sent a "private video" card claiming she had recorded something just for me, with the clip locked behind a paid "Unlock video" button. I never requested a video. I repeated the test with a second character, Mila, and the same card appeared at nearly the same point, locked again. This is built-in behavior, not a one-off.

The Chat That Broke After the Paywall

Test 04 . Free-tier stall
Candy.ai chat dashboard for the character Katherine with a persistent Unlock bar for unlimited messages pinned above the conversation thread
The chat dashboard for Katherine, with the Unlock bar fixed above the thread.
Where it lands: After the paid video card appeared, free chat stopped working properly. Each new message I typed replaced the previous one in the thread instead of adding to it, and no real reply came back. I saw this on both characters. From the outside the cause is hard to call. It may be the free message limit arriving in a broken way, or a deliberate nudge to pay. For a free user the result is identical: the conversation dies right after the paywalled card.

Privacy Toggles Already Switched On

Test 05 . Default settings
Candy.ai Settings screen showing AI and Moderation Training and Automatic Notifications marketing email toggles both switched on by default
Both the AI training and email notification toggles default to on.
The signal here: Inside Settings, two toggles were already active. "AI & Moderation Training" was on, meaning my conversations and prompts feed Candy's model unless I turn it off. "Automatic Notifications" for marketing email was on by the same default. On a product built around private, intimate chat, opt-out rather than opt-in is a choice that deserves a flag.

One Free Character, Then the Wall

Test 06 . Free-tier cap
Candy.ai upgrade popup reading Become Premium to Generate more, blocking a free user from creating a second companion The Guys creation flow for building a boyfriend companion on Candy.ai, found only after switching tabs and scrolling to the bottom of the page
The second-character wall, and the Guys flow reached only after switching tabs and scrolling down.
What this confirms: Creating a second companion on the free plan is blocked outright by a "Become Premium to Generate more" popup, so free access caps you at a single AI. The builder is also girl-first by design. Male companions look absent because the default flow only shows Girls and Trans; the boyfriend creator exists, running its own 10-step process, but you reach it only by switching to the Guys tab and scrolling to the bottom of the page.
★
Deep character creation plus clean in-session recall

The one combination Candy genuinely nails on the free tier is a granular builder feeding a companion that tracks the conversation in front of it. A dozen-plus appearance and personality settings produced a coherent character in two minutes, and that character correctly held two unrelated facts from a single message. Within one sitting, the illusion holds up.

!
Paid cards arrive uninvited, then free chat stalls

An unprompted locked "private video" surfaced on two separate characters at the same point in the thread, and immediately after, free messaging broke: new messages overwrote old ones and replies stopped. A buyer should read this as the platform steering hard toward the wallet before you have decided the product is worth it.

How this review was put together. Testing ran on a freshly created free account in October 2026, covering the character builder, chats with pre-made characters, a deliberate two-fact memory probe, the Settings panel, and the second-character create flow. Screenshots in this section come from those sessions. Subscription pricing was verified against Candy's own in-app subscription screen and its official plans page at candy.ai/subscriptions, not from any third-party coupon or review site.

Pros and Cons

04 . What a real user will notice
+Strengths
  • Visual quality: image output is cleaner and more consistent than most rivals in the category
  • Deep customization: the builder gives granular control over looks, personality and voice
  • Fast, coherent chat: responses land quickly and hold context within a sitting
  • Discreet billing label: charges appear under a neutral merchant name on bank statements
−Drawbacks
  • Memory drifts: characters forget context and start repeating themselves over long chats
  • Unsolicited paid prompts: locked "private video" cards appear without you asking
  • Privacy defaults: model training and marketing email both arrive switched on
  • Silent videos: generated clips often come back without audio
  • Girl-first flow: boyfriend and trans builds are hidden behind a tab and a scroll

What you're actually paying: The headline numbers hide the real cost structure. Every plan unlocks the identical feature set, so you are not buying more capability on the longer term, only a lower rate locked in up front. The $3.99 annual rate is billed as one charge, not month to month, and the monthly plan's $9.99 is a first-month promo that steps up to $13.99 afterward. The part none of these figures show is tokens. Your 100 monthly tokens get consumed by images, voice and video, and Candy does not publish a per-action token price, so once you lean on the media features the subscription stops being the number that matters.

Picking between them: Candy.ai is the one to beat if your priority is image and video quality in an uncensored setting, and the $3.99 annual rate undercuts every paid rival on sticker price before tokens enter the math. If you want to spend nothing and keep it clean, Character.AI's free tier is the obvious landing spot, with c.ai+ at $9.99 a month only if you hit the ad and queue friction. Replika is the pick when the point is a companion that actually remembers you across months rather than one that forgets by the next long session. OurDream matches Candy on uncensored media and goes further on one thing Candy refuses to do: it publishes what each image and video action costs, so you can budget a heavy month on paper first.

A visual powerhouse for casual roleplay, not a companion that lasts

Use Candy.ai if you care most about image and video quality in an uncensored setting, you want a deep character builder, and you plan to pay annually at $3.99 a month while keeping a close eye on token spend. Turn off the training and marketing toggles the moment you sign in.

Skip Candy.ai if you want a companion that remembers you across months, in which case Replika's persistent profile fits better, or if you would rather pay nothing and stay SFW, where Character.AI's free tier is the cleaner choice.
