Mureka AI Review

mureka.ai · Built by Kunlun Tech

Mureka turns a one-line idea into a full song with structured verses and a chorus, and it goes further than most rivals by handing developers a public API alongside stem separation, MIDI export, remix and voice-clone tools in the same place. Its newest V9.5 engine stays free to try at 12 Gold a song, with no card required to sign up. It fits creators who want control over lyrics and production assets rather than a one-click novelty.

What Mureka Does

01 . Overview

Mureka is a text-to-music platform from Kunlun Tech that writes a complete song, lyrics, vocals and instrumentation, from a written prompt. You can start from a sentence, paste your own lyrics, or hum a melody and let the model build around it. The pitch is a full production pipeline rather than a single generate button: song creation, stem separation, MIDI export, remixing and voice cloning all live under one account.

Two things set it apart from the Suno and Udio crowd. It leans hard on lyric handling and song structure, adding intros, verses, pre-choruses and outros to whatever words you feed it, and it ships a developer API that most consumer music tools withhold. Mureka runs on the web and as an iOS app, spends a credit called Gold on every action, and keeps a free tier alive so you can audition the current V9.5 model before paying. The paid plans are Pro and Premier, starting at $8.25 a month on annual billing.

What Happened When We Tested It

02 . 6 tests covering sign-up, generation, downloads, editing and custom mode

We created a fresh free account, took the 50 Gold starter grant, and ran the platform through Agent mode and Custom mode across a full session. No payment method was attached, which is the exact state a first-time user lands in. Here is what the account exposed, step by step.

Sign-up, the Gold grant, and the model gate

Test 01 . Onboarding
Mureka home screen logged in with 50 Gold balance and the model selection menu open showing V9.5 as the free option
Logged in with 50 Gold and the model menu open.
First impression: Registration took under a minute and asked for no card. Mureka dropped 50 Gold into the account on login, and the model menu listed V9.5 free at 12 Gold a song while the newer engines sat behind a Pro badge. Agent mode and ready-made skills like Voice Clone and Remix were one click from the home screen, which makes the starting point unusually welcoming.

One sentence, one full song, and a language slip

Test 02 . Agent generation
★ Prompt Used

"An upbeat country-pop song about a summer road trip through Texas."

Mureka Agent mode planning notes partly printed in Chinese characters while building the requested country-pop song
The planning notes showed up in Chinese.
What stood out: The single sentence produced one properly structured track, "Texas All the Way", at 4 minutes 12 seconds, and the country-pop feel matched the brief. Two rough edges showed up. Generation took 219 seconds, slow for a lone song, and part of the planning notes printed in Chinese inside an otherwise all-English app. That stray Mandarin is a small tell that the polish is not finished.

One result where rivals give two

Test 03 . Output count
Finished Mureka track Texas All the Way in the library with the Gold balance now reading 38
The finished track, with Gold down to 38.
The signal here: Suno returns two takes per attempt so you can pick the stronger one. Agent mode handed back a single song and charged for it, dropping the balance from 50 Gold to 38. Comparing variations on this model means spending again, so the economics of iteration tilt against you from the first generation.

Create freely, then hit the download wall

Test 04 . Export gating
Mureka save menu showing MP3, WAV, stems, MIDI and video exports all marked with Pro or Premier locks, plus a paid commercial license
Every export format and the commercial license sit behind Pro or Premier.
The real story: This is where the free plan shows its shape. Opening the save menu revealed every export locked. MP3, WAV, stems, MIDI and video each carried a Pro or Premier tag, and the commercial license was paid too. On the free plan you can make songs you cannot take anywhere, which leaves a free Mureka track stranded on the site, no use for a YouTube or TikTok upload.

Editing means regenerating, not reshaping

Test 05 . Editing
Mureka editing view where a highlighted section of the waveform is regenerated while the melody is kept, with full studio editing behind an Open in Studio button
Section editing works by regenerating, not by hand-editing.
Where it lands: Mureka does let you edit, up to a point. You can highlight a part of the waveform and regenerate it while keeping the melody, which is useful for a single weak line. Hand-editing the audio lives under an "Open in Studio" button that only Premier unlocks, so on the free plan every fix is a reroll of the section rather than a precise correction, and a reroll can disturb what already worked.

Custom mode, an older model, and a toggle that overrules you

Test 06 . Custom mode
★ Prompt Used

"Emotional pop ballad about missing someone, heartfelt male vocal, soft piano."

Mureka Custom mode on a free account showing it runs the older V7.5 model, with the pasted lyrics and style line entered
Custom mode on a free account runs the older V7.5 model.
Mureka Custom mode with the style field requesting a male vocal while the separate Vocal Gender toggle is set to Female
The style text says male vocal, the toggle says female.
A single Mureka Custom run returning three songs of uneven length including a locked V9.5 Preview capped at one minute, with Gold now at 18
One Custom run made three songs, including a locked V9.5 preview. Gold now 18.
The key finding: Custom mode drops free accounts to the older V7.5 engine and behaves nothing like Agent mode. The written style line asked for a male vocal, but a separate Vocal Gender switch was set to Female and won, so the song came out female against the prompt. A single run then returned three songs of uneven length, 2 minutes 37 seconds down to 1 minute 7 seconds, and the shortest was a V9.5 Preview capped at one minute behind an upgrade button. The best model is shown as bait, not handed over, and the balance was down to 18 Gold.
★
Prompt to finished, structured song in one pass

Agent mode delivered a 4-minute track with real verses and a chorus from a single sentence, and the genre matched. For anyone who wants a complete arrangement rather than a loop, the structuring is the part that genuinely works, even on a free account.

!
A hidden toggle silently reverses your prompt

Writing "male vocal" into the Custom style box does nothing if the Vocal Gender switch is set the other way. The switch wins, so you spend Gold and get the opposite voice. A buyer iterating on a vocal direction can burn credits chasing a result the interface is quietly blocking.

How this review was put together. We tested Mureka on October 30, 2026 using a new free account with the 50 Gold starter grant and no payment method attached. The session ran one Agent generation and one Custom generation on the free models, then walked the save, export and licensing menus. Pricing was verified against the official plan screen at mureka.ai and cross-checked with the public pricing page before publishing.

Pros and Cons

04 . What you will actually notice
+What works
  • Full songs from a sentence: one line returns a structured track with verses and a chorus, not a loop
  • Strong lyric handling: paste your own words and it arranges them into a coherent song shape
  • Developer API: an automation path most consumer music tools simply do not offer
  • Real production tools: stem separation, MIDI, remix and voice cloning under one roof
  • Card-free trial: sign up, take the Gold grant, and audition the current model before committing
−What frustrates
  • One take, not two: you cannot A/B compare on the newest model without generating again
  • Hidden vocal toggle: a gender switch silently overrides the voice you describe in text
  • Slow single songs: 219 seconds for one Agent track tests your patience
  • Shallow free editing: fixes mean regenerating a section rather than correcting it
  • Cancellation friction: users widely report a buried cancel path and missing confirmations

Pricing Breakdown

Songs per month Up to 500
Advanced models (V9.5, V9, V8, O2) ✓

Where the value sits: The headline $8.25 only holds if you pay a year up front at $99; choose month to month and Pro is $10. The gap widens higher up, where Premier runs $16.59 a month annually against $30 paid monthly, so the yearly commitment is doing most of the discounting. The split that matters is not the price, it is the feature line: Pro makes finished songs you can license, while every production export, WAV, stems, MIDI and the Studio editor, lives on Premier. If you only need a track to post, Pro covers it. If you need the multitrack underneath, Premier is the only door, and those exports still spend Gold on top of the subscription.

How to choose: Pick Mureka if your work runs on lyrics you supply or on automation, since the structuring and the open API are the two places it clearly leads. Suno is the safer call if you want the quickest route to a polished vocal track and value getting two takes to choose from on every attempt. Udio earns a shortlist spot for audio detail and voice control, though we could not confirm its live pricing on the official page today, so treat its cost as unverified until you check.

What Users Are Saying

07 . Pulled from public Trustpilot reviews
Personally I think the quality of the generation is really good. It's much better than the soullessness of other platforms. Sometimes it likes to add little extra words or artefacts. The software is slow trying to control Ableton and it's very glitchy, not really what I was hoping for.

Very fun to load my own lyrics and produce a song with instruments and even backup harmonics. It takes many takes to come up with a track that is error free, and that eats into the advertised 500 songs per month for pro level payment.

It's somewhat disappointing for the O2 flagship model. With too many tracks in a song, the song becomes crowded, there's clearly frequency overlap. The kick drum penetrates the ear and is not designed for listening through headphones.

Creating music works just okay with a very limited amount of voices no matter what you tell it to use. What really matters is you cannot get a hold of these people, only chat, and where it says to unsubscribe it's not there.

The cancellation option is hidden at the very bottom of their subscriptions page in grey text on a black background. I was then asked four different times whether I really wanted to cancel.

A capable song engine held back by its account rules. Is it for you?

Use Mureka if you write your own lyrics or build on an API, want stems and MIDI in the same tool, and you pay by card you can easily cancel while watching the Vocal Gender toggle on every Custom run.

Skip Mureka if you want the fastest polished vocal track with two takes to pick from, where Suno is the cleaner choice, or if you are nervous about trial-to-annual billing and want a provider with a plainer cancel path.
