Image Compressor
Shrink JPG, PNG and WebP images in seconds. Choose a quality and size, compare file sizes and download the result.
Runs in your browser. Your images are never uploaded.Applies to JPG and WebP. PNG is lossless, so shrink it with a smaller maximum size or switch to WebP.
Smaller dimensions give the biggest savings. Images are never enlarged.
WebP is usually 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at similar quality.
About this tool
Drop in your photos and graphics and the compressor re-encodes them in your browser at the quality you choose, then shows the size before and after so you can see exactly what you saved. Smaller images load faster, rank better and take less space on your site, in emails and in chat apps.
- Quality: 70 to 80 percent is a good starting point for photos. Lower it for smaller files, raise it if you see artifacts.
- Maximum size: most websites do not need images wider than 1920 pixels. Resizing is often the biggest saving of all.
- WebP: a modern format that is usually much smaller than JPG or PNG and works in all current browsers.
Compression also removes hidden photo metadata such as camera details and GPS location, which helps when you share pictures publicly. Animated images are flattened to a single frame.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The compression happens entirely in your browser using your own device. Your images are never sent to us or anyone else, and they are gone when you close the page.
Why did a PNG barely shrink, or stay the same?
PNG is a lossless format, so it cannot be compressed by lowering a quality setting. To make a PNG smaller, reduce its maximum size or convert it to WebP. If re-encoding would make the file larger, the tool keeps your original instead.
What quality setting should I use?
For photos, 70 to 80 percent usually looks the same as the original to most people while cutting the size a lot. For screenshots with text, use a higher value or stay with PNG.
Is any photo information removed?
Yes. Re-encoding drops metadata such as EXIF data, camera model and GPS location. The picture itself, including its correct rotation, is kept.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
You can process up to 20 images at a time, each up to 25 MB. Very large images are shrunk automatically if your browser cannot handle their full size.
Why is WebP unavailable on my device?
Some browsers, mainly Safari, cannot create WebP files from the page. In that case the option is switched off, and JPG and PNG output keep working.
