Frequently asked questions
How does the word counter count words?
Words are groups of characters separated by spaces or line breaks, the same way most word processors count them. For Chinese, Japanese and Korean text, which has no spaces, the tool uses the browser's built-in word detection instead.
Do emoji and accented letters count as one character?
Yes. The tool counts what you see on screen, so an emoji or a letter with an accent counts as one character, not as several hidden code units.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time assumes about 238 words per minute, an average adult silent-reading speed. Speaking time assumes about 130 words per minute, a comfortable pace for a presentation or voiceover. Real speed varies by person and content.
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser while you type. Nothing is uploaded, stored or shared, and the text disappears when you close or refresh the page.
Why do the character limits matter?
Platforms cut off or reject text over their limits, and search engines truncate long titles and descriptions. The limit bars turn red when you go over, so you can trim before you publish.
